About Sit Drop Stay

Our Philosophy

Sit Drop Stay was created in 2005 by Director and Head Trainer, George Lygidakis. George established the business in response to an urgent need to improve the quality of dog training and to broaden the knowledge about of dog behaviour that is available to the Australian public.

George was alarmed at what he saw as an epidemic of badly behaved, anxious and over stimulated dogs, with many trainers, behaviorists and veterinarians providing poor, sometimes misleading, advice and over using medication. His response was to create a dog training system that is simple, holistic and natural – one that works consistently and delivers amazing results for all dogs regardless of age or breed.

We believe it is time to go beyond the limitations and consequences of both “positive only” and “dominance based” philosophies, to start communicating and interacting with our dogs in a way they truly understand at a deep and instinctive level.

Sit Drop Stay offers a more respectful and effective approach to co-existing and interacting with your dog and changing their behaviour. We realise that most modern day dog and obedience training has little relevance to people’s everyday lives. We strongly believe training should be simple, lifestyle based and focused the individual needs of both dog and owner.

Why a Dog Whisperer?

A dog whisperer understands and uses energy, body language, emotions and presence as the primary form of communication, rather than focusing purely on teaching mechanical body actions or commands by using bribes (treats) or punishment.

It is our relationship with our dogs and our own behaviour around them that is the foundation of achieving willing co-operation. The way we communicate, our belief systems and emotional energy, can all determine our success in creating consistently happy, calm and co-operative dogs.

  • We focus on creating a calm and co-operative dog.
  • We believe the state of mind your dog is in when it receives a reward is more important than their physical action.
  • We use the language your dog understands.
  • We teach you how loving leadership and connection can change your dog’s behaviour and result in a more successful relationship.

It is your energy or presence that allows your dog to stay calm and relaxed. If your dog perceives you as weak, you will need treats, force or medication to get your dog to behave as you want it to.

We help many dogs every day who are highly “trained” but are still anxious, hyperactive, aggressive, dominant, unstable or shut down. Using treats and toys can teach a dog to respond to a command but it does not consider a dog’s mind, spirit or energy and will often create a demanding and anxious dog. Loving leadership, connection and your approval are far more effective and respectful ways to influence a dog’s behaviour.
