Training vs Behaviour — Why It Matters

It’s common to think your dog just needs more training.

But behaviour issues are often linked to how your dog is feeling and responding to their environment.

Training gives direction
Behaviour work creates understanding

We focus on both — so the change feels natural and lasting.

Dog Behaviour And Dog Training Issues We Help With – Sunshine Coast

If your dog is struggling with any of the following, you’re not alone — and it can be resolved.

Across the Sunshine Coast, we work with dog owners dealing with a wide range of behaviour challenges — from mild frustration to more complex and overwhelming situations.

No matter how long it’s been going on, or how difficult it feels… change is possible.

Anxiety & Separation Issues

Does your dog struggle when left alone?

Barking, whining, destructive behaviour, or constantly following you from room to room are all signs of anxiety and dependency.

This isn’t just “bad behaviour” — it’s your dog trying to cope with uncertainty.

Reactivity & Aggression

Lunging, barking, or reacting towards other dogs, people, or visitors can feel stressful and unpredictable.

Whether it’s fear-based or frustration-driven, this behaviour can be understood and improved with the right guidance.

Pulling on the Lead

Walks should be enjoyable — not a constant battle.

If your dog is pulling, ignoring direction, or becoming overexcited on walks, it often comes back to clarity, leadership, and state of mind.

Jumping, Excitability & Lack of Control

Over-the-top greetings, jumping on guests, or constant hyperactivity can make everyday life exhausting.

These behaviours are often linked to overstimulation and a lack of calm direction.

Multi-Dog Household Tension

Struggling to manage more than one dog?

Jealousy, conflict, or tension between dogs is more common than people realise — and can be transformed with the right structure and understanding.

Puppy Behaviour & Early Foundations

Biting, toileting issues, barking, and settling problems can quickly become overwhelming without the right start.

Early guidance can make all the difference in shaping a calm, balanced dog.

There’s Always A Reason Behind The Behaviour

Every behaviour your dog shows is a response to how they feel in their environment.

When we understand what’s driving it, and change the conditions around it…
behaviour begins to change naturally.

Yes. All training is done in your home or where the behaviour occurs, allowing us to create real-world results that last.

Can you help with aggressive or reactive dogs?

Absolutely. We regularly work with aggression, reactivity, anxiety, and other behaviour challenges by addressing the root cause — not just the symptoms.

How quickly will I see results?

Many clients notice a change in the first session. Long-term success depends on consistency, but we give you practical tools from day one.

Do you train puppies?

Yes. We work with puppies through to older dogs, helping prevent or resolve behaviour issues at any stage.

What areas do you cover?

We service the entire Sunshine Coast, including Maroochydore, Noosa, Caloundra, Buderim and surrounding areas.

Why train in-home instead of classes?

Dogs behave differently in real environments. Training at home allows us to address behaviour where it actually happens.

Your dog learns to respond because they want to — not because they have to.

Client Testimonials

We are beyond impressed!!!! The VALUE we uncovered in our session was incredible.. Every dog will be different no doubt, but in just one session we established the ground rules at home and did a walking on lead session. Our boy is a massive pain on the lead, and we have tried everything to correct this. Literally in 10 minutes our boy Olly was walking next to us like he’d been doing it his whole life.We are super excited for the future! . ★★★★★  J.  Smith

Thank you so much, what a transformation for my little sausage, Rodney! He is so much more relaxed and the household is extremely calm, for once. Made a massive difference when dealing with some urgent family matters. I have mentioned you to a few of my friends. Thank you!  ★★★★★ Sal R

Meet Dimitri – Sunshine Coast Dog Behaviour Specialist

If you’re struggling with your dog’s behaviour, this will help you understand what’s really going on — and how we can help.

“I recently worked with two dogs who couldn’t even look at each other.

They were anxious, jealous, and completely dependent on their owners… and bringing them into the same home felt almost impossible.

This is something I see a lot.

And what most people don’t realise is — it’s usually not a training problem.

It’s a stability and relationship problem.

When a dog feels uncertain, overwhelmed, or unclear about their environment, they create behaviour to cope with it.

Once we change that… behaviour starts to shift naturally.

With these two dogs, everything changed.

They now walk together, relax together, and actually choose to be around each other.

If you’re dealing with anxiety, reactivity, or tension between dogs… you’re not alone — and it can be resolved.”

“We went from two dogs that couldn’t even look at each other… to two that can’t be apart.” — Jess & Nate

How We Work

We start out with an introductory phone consultation with your local Sunshine Coast dog trainer, who will ask you some preliminary questions to find out what your individual needs are.

Our specialist will come out to your home, or other place of your choosing. Your initial two hour one on one session with you and your dog will be tailored to your specific needs. Taking into consideration your current lifestyle, who else is in the family, your dog’s temperament and the outcome that you want to achieve, they will put together a formula that’s just right for you.

If further consultations are required, we will come back and address any continuing issues and ensure that you have all the tools you need for a rewarding relationship with your dog based on loving leadership and true connection.

Your Local Dog Trainer In Sunshine Coast

Dimitri Hondroudakis

Hi, I’m Dimitri and I am stoked to represent SitDropStay in the Sunshine Coast.

How I ended up here is a little different from the rest of the SitDropStay team. I had always felt an affinity for dogs, however, when I was growing up, our family dogs lived outside. Whenever my parents couldn’t find me and whenever possible, I was usually outside with the dogs. But, I certainly never pictured myself working with dogs.

I was in my early 30s when Heidi, who belonged to my partner at the time, entered my life. Heidi, a pit/border collie mix, was not only sweet and sassy, she was silly and wise. She changed me irrevocably. Not only did she convince me that dogs belong inside with the family, but Heidi also helped me understand dogs on a level I never knew existed. She showed me that dogs can teach us a lot about ourselves. Heidi taught me about unconditional love and reminded me constantly about the joy of living in the moment.

I am fascinated by the human/canine connection and it has been my passion to help those around me experience what I have. I have spent many years helping friends with their dogs before commencing my training with Sit Drop Stay. My passion is helping my clients form a deeper connection with their K9 companion.
